Located on the shores of East Africa, in the Indian Ocean, off the coast of Kenya, Lamu is a town, an island, and an archipelago. There, time seems to have stopped somewhere in the XVIII or XIX century, and life is still much what it used to be at the time of the Sultanates of Pate and Zanzibar.
DREAM HOLIDAYS
Alternating enless beaches and mysterious mangroves, old historical buildings and untouched nature, fishing trips and BBQ, Lamu can fulfil all holidays dreams.
FROM OSAMA'S DEN TO LAMU ISLAND VILLA
The house has been known in Lamu - and on Internet - as Osama's Den since it was created in 2002. No need to be a marketing guru to gather that such a name may have alienated a part of the potential clientele... Hence the 2005 renaming from Osama's Den to lamu-Island Villa. But originally, why Osama's Den? Well, read further, rather than a gory terrorist tale, it is the cute story of a little dog.
On September 11th 2001, amongst other events, was born a baby dog. He was to be called Osama, following the tradition of certain ethnic groups of East Africa to give the new born the name of an event having marked its time of birth. Osama having since been the indefectible gardian of the house, the latter was to be known all over Lamu as "Nyumba ya Osama", or Osama's Den.
THE HOUSE
The house is located between Lamu Town and Shela village, in a 1/4 acre secluded garden, remote and peaceful, 200 m from the sea. With 200 sq. m., three bedrooms, two terraces, living room, equipped kitchen and toilet/bathroom, the house can confortably sleep six people. Spare mattresses in the attic, terraces and balconies, not to mention tents in the garden, have in the past allowed cattering for more than 12 people.
Facilities include a care-taker for your convenience and a watchman for your security. You will be met at the airport or at Lamu Jetty, and taken to the house by public or private means, your choice.
Cook and motor-boat can be arranged for a modest fee.
